Boston Voyager Interview

Angela, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.

Well, I guess as a writer, its just that, a story. My passions are writing and soccer and those both began very early on in life. I was into singing and dancing in my 80’s jelly shoes but my best friend in kindergarten asked me to join a soccer team with her, the cupcakes. She fell off after a season or two but I was hooked instantly after I scored my first goal.

As for writing, my mother split from my father when I was five. She uses to send pretty cool gifts and it became a thing for her to send my diaries and writing journals. I started with poems and won my first contest in the 6th grade. How did I get to where I am today? Well, that is a whole lot of strengths and struggles you can find in my book, ” The Player Diaries” I am working on a second edition right now. Basically, I have an artistic soul and someone of that nature feeds off of heartache and failures. I just never take any of that as a reason to stop. I have humbled that people look at me as accomplished because, in my own mind, I am nowhere near what I want to achieve.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
A smooth road, I often wonder what life would be like if it had been. I was abandoned by both my parents by the age of 11 and stuck out in the Midwest wandering lost being my soul was Boston baby! I find that was one of my biggest struggles, being 100% Italian stuck in a place where the culture was corn. I knew I wasn’t where I was meant to be but until I was 18 I had to make it work.

I was a four sports athlete, cheerleader, student council president, on the newspaper, yearbook committee, soccer was my life. I stayed constantly busy. My advice is just that, find a passion maybe even 10. Keep going, never give yourself the opportunity to be sucked into people headed in the wrong direction. You always feel a sense of accomplishment that keeps you in a positive place even if home may be the last place you want to be. Give yourself outlets and opportunity will come!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about BelGioco Media / Scene&Style Magazine – what should we know?

Until my feet make the call, I specialize in playing soccer, I have come to a point in life where I know I am not a spring chicken and am making playing my top priority. You previously asked what advice I have for aspiring women? Don’t let the man get you down! Literally, being a female athlete is brutal between the money, resources, and don’t forget you can be the sexiest girl out there yet there are plenty of men intimidated by you. Be true to that, it’s difficult but the amount of people looking to drag you down makes chasing your dreams a lonely life. Past the pitch, Scene&Style is on site! I started out writing for a newspaper in the North End and have grown into my own online magazine. I am well known in Boston for posting live from the runways and fashion show writing reviews. I am not sure anyone does exactly what I do as I am usually surrounded by my boys, ” professional photographers”.

I have found my way into being a Brand Ambassador and loving it. I represent Peach, a lifestyle and athleisure wear brand. The designs are chic with athletic swag and the fabric always feels like silk. I did a World Cup campaign with Sasha L Jewels. She is a chic and fresh jewelry designer from Jersey that made me a pair of Brazil colored earrings and we collaborated for some fun during the tournament. They are universal also; she has her heritage month collection coming up and I will be covering Boston Caribbean Fashion Week where they will pair perfectly with my outfits.

I have multiple things I do; Sports in the City, my original media platform, Scene&Style, The Player Diaries. Yet, I am very proud to say that I have recently re-branded my umbrella “Cornacchio Communications” to BelGioco Media. I offer; article/affiliate copy-writing, website content, press releases, social media campaigns brand building, and business consulting. I am looking forward to the day when I have left my heart on the pitch and embrace my business.
