Kelly Dempsey Kicked off Boston Fashion Week 2016

Local Boston based designer and Project Runway diva Kelly Dempsey opened up the festivities for #bfw2016 also The Liberty Hotel's season of Fashionably Late.

Dempsey was back to the bean fresh from her time trending at New York Fashion Week where she showed pieces from her new RackAddik collection which is a fashion forward based street-wear line. Dempsey mentioned prior to New York that she had never really shown in Boston and was looking to get closer with the community.

Dempsey has a style that demands attention and the night’s vibe ranged from a pop princess look of a glittered sequence pant with pom styled hair to suit the style, a metallic zebra top with a rainbow sequence overall and all pieces being finished off with her staple fanny pack.

Scene&Style was able to catch up with the producer of the show Miss Kathy Benharris for a one on one to kick off her filled Boston Fashion Week.

How was it working with Kelly Dempsey? "Amazing! She has a clear vision of the fashion story she wants to tell and I love that. "

Which was your favorite piece of her collection? "From apparel stand point it was the pink tiger suit. I'm a fool for animal print. That combination she put together I can see young celebrities wearing to a fun event and will be expecting to see that piece as a cover photo. Her staple of the brand is the fanny pack and was roped in by the Swarovski crystals used. I never had fanny pack love until I met Kelly."

What's next on your fashion schedule? "I am right back in the game after fashion week with Fashion Gives Back tomorrow night at the South Shore Plaza. After that will be the Halloween themed Fashionably Late at the Liberty Hotel on the 27th. That show should be fun! It’s not a costume party is a runway show focused on the dark, sexy danger, glamourous side of fashion. Then will be one of my favorite productions, the Boston Ski and Snow Expo November 10th through the 13th. It's a nationally attended event with over 40,000 ski industry folks looking for slope gear. We will be having multiple shows daily featuring brands like; Obneyer, Volkl, Scott, Spyder, Marmot and more."

“Kelly from the Dempsey” is how she referred to herself through Project Runway season 14 being she is a self-taught designer who pays her way through the expensive threads at Mood in New York City by slinging sandwiches at a local deli where she grew up in Monson, Ma.
