Slope Style in the She Shed

Once the leaves are no longer a crisp orange color New England knows its time for the annual Boston.com Ski and Snow Expo which returned for its 37th year in the cites Seaport World Trade Center.

The four days of slope style fun brings mountain representatives from all over the country, entertainment from the Skyriders, International Trampoline Champions and this year rocking live music from Shark Martin. The room is lined with booths of must have accessories from the newest and time-honored brands like; Powe., Nordica, Inferno, SKEA, and plenty of beverages from beer to the tasty protein recovery drink Trimino.

In her 5th year local stylist Kathy Benharris has been making the expo a fashionable one. Benharris has presented runway shows with the current seasons snow styles, rotating entertainment of local dance sensations and more. Every year its chic and fresh and in 2018 it was “Her Turn” in the “She Shed” sponsored by Sunday River Mountain. They teamed up with Benharris to show their commitment to supporting female winter athletes and have an entire month in January dedicated to it.

The She Shed was a replicated lodge where ladies gents and kids of course could come take a load off by the fire and relax. The Shed featured an outfit of day styled by the Benharris team, hair and make-up tips on site from MLR Artists and sick braid twists to look sleek on the slope from Carbon Salon diva Lindsey Grenier. With all the fabulous fashion a girl could need right in the She Shed why not finish off your time with some Yoga! Guru Kristina Grinovich with Namasayido was there to educate on the importance of stretching, focus, and even demonstrate some techniques to take your snow game to the next level.

Scene&Style was able to catch up with the Queen of snow Style Kathy Benharris for a little one on one chat by the fire. When asked that the She Shed is new to the expo this year, how did that come about? Benharris replied, “I am passionate about all winter sports with skiing being my obsession. I love sharing the joy of being on top of a mountain in the winter and am always looking to encourage other women to experience all that the alpine lifestyle offers. I envisioned a space that would look like an inviting ski lodge that would welcome skiers and snowboarders to connect with others that share their interests. Sunday River sponsored Her Turn at the She Shed and much of the decor came from the resort and our home there. Check out Sunday River's Holiday Hang Over Event for a female focused weekend of fun. The Shed also featured female specific skis and snowboards by Rossingnol, Volkl, K2 and Meier with fashion and accessories from Country Ski & Sport.”

Looking for some backstage insight, what is the inspiration behind the She Shed? Kathy followed with, “Simply put - my love of playing on the snow and wanting to help others celebrate everything that the winter offers is what drove this creation. I was thrilled that so many influential skiers and female sports leaders spent time in the She Shed sharing their expertise and connecting with others. We also had yoga and beauty experts to give tips on how to maximize the upcoming season.”

Closing out the conversation, I’ve heard that you have had some snow celebrities hang out in your She Shed this weekend, who were a few favorites? Benharris sighed, “It’s so hard to pick "favorites" because every female that appeared in the Shed brought her own special magic and pedigree. Olympian Donna Weinbrecht was incredible to feature in the She Shed. Donna shares her gold medal with everyone and is so genuine and giving of her time. It was also great to host Wendy Clinch of The Ski Diva Forum who drew a large crowd and brought with her a message of confidence.”

The Boston.com Ski and Snow Expo is an event New England looks forward to year after year. It gets slope junkies excited and with stylists like Benharris has them looking sharp when they get to the mountain. For more information on the event visit www.skisnowexpo.com.
